My English Mindset origins

Hi there!

Have you ever put something off for years? Have you ever procrastinated so long that you were sick of yourself for doing it? Well, I definitely know that feeling.

I've always wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. When I was a child, I’d play "school" with my brothers and sister. I was the youngest but always insisted on being the teacher (though my siblings loved to make my job difficult).

When I went to university, I had no idea what I wanted to study. I felt lost for three years—what should have been a four-year experience. I initially thought I’d study nutrition and food science because I loved cooking and had studied culinary arts in high school. I became a vegetarian at 14, despite coming from a family that didn’t focus on nutrition or healthy eating. But when I realized that studying nutrition involved a lot of science, I struggled to stay focused due to my attention difficulties. I wasn’t sure how I would get through those courses.

Then, I got a job on campus in outdoor recreation. Suddenly, I was a mountain guide—kayaking, climbing, hiking, and white-water rafting. You name it, I learned it and loved it. After two years, I earned certifications and even switched my major to Outdoor Recreation, keeping Nutrition as my minor. It felt like an easier path because it was experiential, and that passion made the studying much more manageable.

But here’s where the story takes a twist: during a conversation with my roommate, I heard her mention that she was taking a French class. This caught my attention because, even though I had studied Spanish in school, it never stuck with me. On a whim, I switched my Spanish course to French. Little did I know, that decision would change my life.

Fast forward to today—I’m writing this from my apartment in Grenoble, France, where I live with my two cats. I’ve been living here for five years now, and I’m fluent in French, a language I absolutely love. My younger self could never have imagined the incredible life I’m living now.

I've always struggled with traditional school settings because I have attention deficit disorder (ADD). The way information was presented, the way exams were conducted—it never worked for me. That’s why I’m passionate about reshaping how we teach students. My love for languages and my ongoing experience as a language learner inspire me to create a system that works for students all over the world.

That’s why I founded My English Mindset. I believe that through technology and online lessons, learning English can be accessible and effective for everyone. My techniques are shaped by my experiences, and I’m eager to share them with students of all ages, from all corners of the globe.

I’d love to hear your language learning journey! Leave a comment and let me know your experience and your goals for the future. And if you're ready to start your own English journey, let’s do it together.
